27 Days ’til 40: Finding Hope

I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest.  I do not judge the universe. ~ Dalai Lama

Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.  Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. ~ Helen Keller

No matter how dark the moment, love and hope are always possible. ~ George Chakiris

I was thinking about hope today….. hope is one of those crazy things that can be so hard to grasp, yet so difficult to live without.  I remember when I was in grad school and we were discussing the rehabilitation of suicidal teens.  My professor cited numerous studies (none of which I remember, sorry) that correlated recovery from suicidal tendencies with hope.  Researchers found that when teens found some sort of hope for the future then they were able to move forward and no longer repeat suicidal attempts.  It makes sense.

We all need to feel that there is something to live for, a reason to move on.  If we are in the rougher moments in our lives, and we all have them, then we need to pause for a moment and look for that hope that our circumstances will morph into something more bearable, something that brings more joy and satisfaction.  Sometimes it is hard to let go of our depression, our frustration, our anger long enough to afford ourselves the opportunity to hope for change.  When we can let go and believe we find ourselves in a happier state of being.

Today, 27 days ’til 40, I am thankful that I am usually able to find that place of hope in my life – I hope you can as well.

Several family members and friends of mine who have battled cancer have told me that one of the things that got them through was the hope that they would beat it. In terms of healing and fighting against disease, hope is a very powerful motivator.

Hope truly is the power that moves mountains.
Hope and Fear one will empower you the other will tear you down.
    I really enjoyed your post.

    Namaste

After reading some of your posts, of late–they speak volumes as to the level of “emotional maturity” that you possess. I also believe you have alot of good insights. Nice to read about them.

I always said that if I had a daughter I would name her Hope! I had a hysterectomy back in Aug 2005 so there will never be a physical daughter but each day the birth of the intangible Hope is possible.

I love the name hope! In fact, I almost named my daughter hope!

That makes me smile to know there is a little tangible Hope walking around! 🙂 My birth mom’s middle name was Faith and mine is Joy…figured Hope was a natural addition lol.

Wonderful post, 400! When we lose hope, we have truly lost Life…a thought to always keep foremost in our ‘little gray cells’! And, BTW…an exceptionally stunning image today! You’ve a very ‘good eye’ for beauty!

It’s not always easy and not having religious faith to fall back on like so many makes it a wee bit harder I suppose – but it also makes me appreciate the things in my life because the things that give me hope are the people I know and love and the dreams I live for… Hope is an amazingly strange little thing. 🙂
