2 Days ’til 40: 40 Favorite Posts from My 400 Days ’til 40 Journey

I must say that it was much easier to choose 40 photos than to choose 40 posts!  One of the fun things about this particular journey is that I allowed myself to write (or post photos) about whatever I felt on any particular day.  As a result, I have a wide array of followers who each connect in different ways to what I write – this has been amazing.  I imagine that in the future, as I become a bit more focused, I may have a less diverse group of readers, though I hope not!

Here is my top 40 list of posts, hopefully as eclectic as my readers are.  Some I chose because of the importance of the content, some because they make me laugh (yes, I realize that I have a weird sense of humor that others do not always appreciate) and some because I like the way the words flow.

 

6 Days ’til 40: Delicious Delicacies

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and my partner and I had a wonderful dinner in a nice restaurant, something we do not normally do because we are very budget conscious.  It was such a lovely experience and I am so glad we went out.  We had a delicious meal and the atmosphere was pleasant and there were no kids – we were in heaven.

Yet, as I looked around the restaurant, something saddened me.  I realized that many people, even on a special occasion like Valentine’s Day, struggle with whether to go for a diet dinner or a delicious delicacy.  Where is the balance in the equation?

 

8 Days ’til 40: Why Can’t I Win the Lottery??!!?? :(

Yesterday I did not get something I wanted.  My initial gut-level reaction was to launch into a full-fledged pity party, complete with pouting and sulking.  WHY CAN’T I WIN THE LOTTERY???  SOMEONE has to win it, why is that someone ALWAYS someone else and never me???  (And no, it has nothing to do with the fact that I rarely buy tickets, because rarely is not never, it is just not often).  Recently I bought a lottery ticket and I was very disappointed that I did not win.  In fact, I may have even been a tad depressed that I did not win…..  I really, really, REALLY WANTED to win (note, a want is very different from a NEED).

42 Days ’til 40: Illusions of Control

 

Almost every person I know has a weatherman story.  You know it, don’t you?  The story of the weatherman who could not predict a sunny day even when they were out in the hot sun getting dehydrated.  This is how myself and my colleagues have felt this week.  We had a prediction for snow.  We did not have a gentle prediction, we had a strong declaration from all the local news sources that there was going to be a “major snow event” in our city.  Over 100 snowplows were on standby, as was my entire staff and our families.

 

43 Days ’til 40: Making Chores Fun

 

I LOVE it when my daughters teach me important lessons or remind me of lessons I have previously learned, but somehow “forgotten” as I go about my daily routine.  The photos I have included in this blog are visual representations of the lesson my older daughter reminded me of this week: Chores should be fun!  

 

46 Days ’til 40: Perfect Moments

Yesterday we spent the day at the pier.  We really enjoyed running around in one of those rare sunny moments in the middle of winter.  My girls stood by the water watching the waves and then started to jump up and down, yelling for me.  They were so excited to show me the bird standing on the rock.  Then, I was lucky enough to capture the bird on film as it started to fly away.

 

52 Days ’til 40: Have a Healthy, Responsible New Year’s Eve

I wish all of my readers the best for 2013.  May we all continue to challenge ourselves to learn and grow.  May we all tackle life with vision and compassion, enthusiasm and love.  May we look back one year from now and be thankful for all of the gifts that 2013 will bring to us.  Happy New Year!
