I must say that it was much easier to choose 40 photos than to choose 40 posts! One of the fun things about this particular journey is that I allowed myself to write (or post photos) about whatever I felt on any particular day. As a result, I have a wide array of followers who each connect in different ways to what I write – this has been amazing. I imagine that in the future, as I become a bit more focused, I may have a less diverse group of readers, though I hope not!
Here is my top 40 list of posts, hopefully as eclectic as my readers are. Some I chose because of the importance of the content, some because they make me laugh (yes, I realize that I have a weird sense of humor that others do not always appreciate) and some because I like the way the words flow. I ran out of perfume a few days ago and needed to find something new. The perfume I have worn for years (okay, the last decade) can only be purchased in certain places that are not close to my home, so I set out to find something new – I figure it was about time. The last time I changed perfumes was before I became a parent… my oldest is now 11. Finding a perfume was harder than I thought it would be – there were so many choices, many of which made me gag. I like a perfume that will not hang out in an elevator after I get out of it – something that can be smelled slightly, but is not overpowering and nauseating. Being that I am not the type of person that is normally drawn to name brand items, I must admit that I was a bit surprised with where my perfume procuring journey landed me. Yes, the perfume I liked the most (or tolerated the best) was made by Prada. I definitely do NOT consider myself a Prada girl. As if to add insult to the injury my ego had been caused by my pull towards Prada, the perfume itself was called “Candy”. What sensible professional sprays themselves every morning before work with something called “Candy”??? Apparently, now I do. Read the rest of this entry »
Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law – for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well. ~ President Barack Obama Read the rest of this entry »
This may sound funny to some, but yesterday I walked out to see this on my car (cat footprints) and it made me think of the homeless in our area. You see, the stray cats in our neighborhood can be miserable this time of year because it gets so cold at night – so they will often park themselves on our car when we get home for the heat from the engine. Yet, how many people in our city, or our world for that matter, do not have the option of parking themselves somewhere for warmth? Read the rest of this entry »
I have not worked as a counselor in an official capacity for almost four years (yes, it is true that my current job in educational leadership does lend itself to many counseling moments). That said, I no longer consider myself a counseling professional, I now consider myself a broader “educational professional”. Yet, I have these moments when I find myself slipping back into that counseling role. The interesting thing is that I slip into the counseling role in the strangest of places (can you relate?) It does not necessarily happen at staff or parents meetings exclusively. Sometimes, I find myself in counselor mode on the weekends or while on vacation – far away from my professional realities. Yesterday was one of those days. Read the rest of this entry »
I LOVE this video! It is so simple, yet so true. Education is not about arriving at a destination, education is a PROCESS that, when participated in correctly, should last a lifetime. Yet, we approach education as though there is an end point. My partner often refers to how anti-climactic the educational process was. She was completely convinced (as a young person) that when she obtained her PhD she would feel as though she had “arrived.” However, when the time actually arrived and her degree was granted, she realized that she knew “a lot about nothing.” She was disappointed. In her case, she also had a doctorate in a field that was hard to transfer into a job, something she had not thought about while on that higher education train. Read the rest of this entry »
Okay, I admit, I came up with the title of this post due to the inspiration of painstakingly removing the seeds from a pomegranate. If you have ever done this, you know that it can be a long process and that your fingers often come out very red (or, at the best, they look a bit jaundiced afterwards). Read the rest of this entry »
