231 Days ’til 40: It’s ALL About the Shoes

05 Jul

Any girl that’s got a $500,000 table and $5 shoes, I’m in love with. ~ James Brolin

Between saying and doing, many a pair of shoes is worn out. ~ Iris Murdoch

Did you ever get the feeling that the world was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes? ~ George Gobel

I always wear flat shoes, because I can’t walk in anything else. ~ Sadie Frost

I definitely spend the most money on shoes, partly because vintage footwear can be a little funky – in a bad way. I like to keep things pretty simple up top and then go weird with the shoes. ~ Chloe Sevigny

I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes, I had one thousand and sixty. ~ Imelda Marcos

Today I went to a 4th of July party.  It was a snazzy event and many people were in dapper black suits and elegant evening wear.  I too went in a nice gown, which my partner picked out for me about a month ago.  As for my shoes, yes, they are pictured above.  Those docs are what I wore to the snazzy 4th of July party – full of important people in big black suits… and I LOVED it!  I can understand Sadie Frost, I just cannot wear heels, I may have looked more elegant in heels, but I am certain I would NOT look elegant stumbling over myself and falling into a punch bowl – not going to happen in my sturdy Docs!

I have been wearing Docs to parties for years now – and I have never embarrassed myself by tripping or falling in a pair.  They also come in handy when you are on the dance floor and a person nearby has two left feet!  Furthermore, they are a great weapon if you need to protect your spouse or partner from an attack.  Yes, I LOVE my Docs and I believe they can accentuate any fancy outfit (I even have a red velvet pair!)  Heaven knows, they cost more than many pairs of heels, so they should be acknowledged for the greatness they posses.

Today, 231 days ’til 40, I am thankful for my Docs and I DO NOT CARE who stares at them or me!

Yet another thing we have in common–lack of grace in heels. I look at women running, yes running, into the store through the parking lot in 6 inch heels and I marvel at first, how they do it and, second why?? They’re dangerous, sooooo bad for your feet in the long run. I however opt for Dansko Professionals rather that Docs. Maybe because I’m older, maybe because I’m me. I’ve always loved patent leather and I have a funky browns, golds zebra pair and a plain black pair. Also very pricey shoes unless you shop like I do. How’s $100 off at cocnsignment when someone changed their mind? Love it!

Yes, I feel the same way….. why on earth would anyone want to wear heels and do that to their body? I had a great grandmother that had to have high heeled bedroom slippers because she wore heels so much her feet froze in that position….. was very sad.

Docs are cool. You can’t go wrong with a good pair of Docs. They’re comfortable, they last for years and they’re the only piece of clothing I’ve found that cost more in the US than they do in the UK 😀

I have to agree. If my feet are uncomfortable it ruins any event for me. I wear boots or trainers or bare feet.

Way to go sister! I have a pair of cherry red Docs and have worn them just about about every place imaginable… many a motorcycle trip, the two times I performed in drag, my first time in a “real” lesbian bar, to church…they are the definition of amazing.

And as for the heels, I’m with you. My mom bought me a pair of low heels for my first day of work at my current job, I wore them and they gave me a blister. They are currently in the back of my closet covered in dust. I’m all about the comfort sista!

Always wearing docs every days. Theses are definitively the best shoes to live, run, have fun all the time. Resistant and useful they can also be very feminine with a pretty outfit. I prefer to be able to go everywhere without being scared of ruining my shoes… Totally agree with your post if I needed to say so.
    Have a wonderful day

My mom practically threw a fit when I told her I intend to get married in brand new white sneakers. In the end we compromised – flat white simple shoes for the ceremony, and sneakers for the dancing. 🙂 No heels for me!

Shoeism seems to be a bit of a woman thing. Even quite fashion-conscious men aren’t that concerned about shoes with a few exceptions. But as a long-distance walker, I value a good pair of walking boots and I can almost imagine they’re alive and have a character. Putting them on and taking them off is as symbolic as a knight putting on or taking off armour.
