182 Days ’til 40: Crazy Remedies (That Work!)

23 Aug

I have a confession to make.  Those who know me will not be surprised.  I am a strong Dr. Google follower.  It is true.  I consult Dr. Google with all sorts of ailments, mostly in search for cures that are cheap, holistic, natural, or do not involve my having to head to the doctor.

There are a few remedies I have had a lot of fun with – fun finding out that they REALLY do work!  My favorite was the banana skin removal of warts.  Did you know you can remove a wart from your hand with banana skin?  I was not a believer – but I tried it and it worked!  You need to cut a piece of banana peel (preferably fresh, thick, even a tad green) slightly larger than the wart and place it slimy side down on your finger.  Attach with tape, a band-aid, etc.  The wart drains the liquid from the peel over time (ie: during the night or day) and the peel eventually lies flat against your wart and is thin.  Change it every time it gets flat.  Soon you will see the wart start to peel away – and the layers come off and you can see the stringy inside… and finally the last bit of the end/ root pops out.  The process can take over a week, but it is amazing how well it works!

Another remedy I have tried is one for toenail fungus… the kind that makes your nail go thicker and yellow (yes, I know, totally gross).  I read that you can spread Vics Vaporub on the nail (very liberally from top to bottom) and the fungus will be cured… this is a very slow process, as nails grow slowly.  I started the Vics routine about 6 weeks ago and I now have 1mm of new nail growth that is no longer thick, but thin and healthy……  with a clear line between the fungal nail and the healthy nail – so cool!

Today, 182 days ’til 40, I am thankful for home remedies for ailments – they save money, tend to be healthier for you, and are fun to test!

Hooray! I’m in the Dr. Google Club too. It’s rather necessary since western medical doctors only know how to prescribe antibiotics and conduct surgery.

Dr. Google is my favorite doctor! And, sadly, often more reliable than the medical professionals in our world.

Oh yes, I had heard that banana skin works on warts. But if you have one on your face, it is hard to keep a bit of banana skin on. So what works on the face is Duct tape – it also contains salicilic acid, and deprives the wart of air and light.
Also check out papaya – it is good for bruising/swelling, depression, worms and a whole lot of other things. If you live in a tropical climate, the sap from the papaya tree also cures warts.

Very interesting, 400! Guess that means we should utilize our brain power, do some research, use common sense…and not run to a doctor for every little thing (as many do!)!

So funny about the warts. My daughter had several on her fingers and toes. We made a couple of trips to the doctor and tried every over the counter product known to man. Nothing completely got rid of them. While seeing another doctor for something entirely different, he suggested duct tape. We applied it just like the banana peel method you describe. They were gone in a week and have been gone for about 5 years! Crazy how the simple things really work!

Yes, it is crazy! What is even more crazy is how much money we spend on doctor trips only to find a solution that costs next to nothing!

I’ve heard banana peal is great to use on pimples. Must be working on the same principle. Definitely going to go buy bananas now.

Great tips 🙂 What about scars? I have one on my shin from a couple of years ago after a nasty fall and I’ve applying Vitamin E oil but not sure it’s working!

Provided you’re prepared to have a bit of banana skin on your finger for a week and a pungent smell coming from your foot!
