181 Days ’til 40: Beer Festival

24 Aug

Today I went with my partner and two friends to the local beer festival.  It was a lot of fun.

First of all, please know that my reality at a beer festival is very different from many.  We went early, really early – to avoid the crows and the drunken banter.  We tasted many beers – some good, and some not so good.  None of us went overboard or got drunk…. in fact, I have never been drunk in my life.  (Yes, it is true, and no, I am not as good and innocent as you now think I am).

It is possible to go to a beer festival and have a lot of fun without making a moron of yourself.  I was so glad to have this opportunity.  I was sad that I did not find a new amazing beer – there were no new beer loves, but it was great to hang out with friends.

Today, 181 days ’til 40, I remind myself I can have a lot of fun and still be responsible.

I have actually never been to a beer festival, but I love beer and I certainly have been drunk before! 🙂

They just started holding one in my town last summer. It is returning this weekend, and I’ve been tempted to go check it out because it sounds like a lot more fun than typical fests.

That’s the only way I’d hit a beer fest – although I’ll admit Oktoberfest in Munich (?) looks like a HOOT.

What kinds of beers did you try? Last weekend I worked at the beer bar at a music festival. The most popular were the Bavarian style vegan wheat beer and the smoked lager. Sold a lot of IPA as well, including a really cloudy unrefined pale ale called Moor Revial (also vegan). Just looking at it made me feel hungover!

I love US microbreweries. Wish we could get more decent US beer here in the UK, and not just the rubbish like Budweiser and Coors …

I tend to like amber ales – but the group favorites of the evening seemed to be the IPAs.

On top of avoiding the town drunks, you also had to avoid the crows? Were they re-making “The Birds?” Maybe the crows got into “the juice” first! Bad birds!!!

Hey – keep an eye out for the post I’m writing tomorrow. It’s titled “I’m EVERY woman.” This is a must-read for every man who deeply cares about the dignity of women everywhere – whether straight, LGB or T. I can’t wait to write it. This has “global movement” and book written all over it. I wish you and yours “enough” today. Alan

I didn’t like beer until I drank strawberry beer!

Before moving countries, me and my friends went to Camden Town in London to a famous (beer) pub, where you guessed rightly, just beer is on the menu! Hundreds upon hundreds of them – the menu was huge! Beers from all over the world. So I chose to be the girly girl and have the strawberry beer. It was very tasty!

Oh no, now I have to go attempt to find strawberry beer somewhere! (Once I tried beer that was brewed in coffee, it had a nice flavor!)

I leave this up to …. Humphrey Bogart “The problem with the world is that everyone is a few drinks behind.”
Beer festivals in August …. they should be in the end of September and October … be any good excuse for good drinking *smile

We have an excellent Winter Ale Festival here in Harwich, but of course this concentrates on British real ales and these are dispensed from barrels via a tap, not from bottles. It’s good fun and there are some fine beers, many of them uncommon and difficult to find except near their birthplace.

Does the person pouring that very frothy beer not know about pouring gradually along the inner side of the glass?

Wow, that sounds like so much fun! Yea, the guy pouring was not too bright!
