176 Days ’til 40: Making Reservations (For Dinner)

29 Aug

We have all had those evenings, haven’t we?  We come home from a long day at work and the last thing we want to be doing is preparing a meal for our family.  This is even more challenging in homes where both parents must work.  Sometimes we find that in these moments we are more likely to either make reservations or order food for delivery.  This is dependent on the degree of exhaustion – do we have the energy to eat in a somewhat dignified manner without drooling on the table?  If so, we go out – otherwise, we order in and drool on the couch while watching t.v. and eating out of paper bags and styrofoam boxed fast food.

I prefer home cooked meals, but there are times when those breaks are so critical to our mental health.

Today, 176 days ’til 40, I am thankful for the permission we give ourselves to make reservations every once in a while instead of making dinner.

I like to eat home cooked meals better, I just don’t always want to put forth the effort to cook them!!!

My wife has had a saying for years – “Anything with more than 2 ingredients is a recipe- and I DON’T do recipes.” The restaurants and certain East Indian frozen entree’ providers simply love us – especially Fran! Fatigue is incidental in our home when it comes to cooking.

I was at a meeting late tonight and came home to find that is what my family had done in my absence.

Funnily enough my man took me out for dinner on Monday night. We were going to get take away but the place was shut so we ended up going for a sit down meal and it was really nice. Sometimes spontaneity is good! 🙂

I hate to cook for only me .. but today I do – can’t run on restaurants anymore .. as I did when living aboard. I like eating out when I’m on holiday .. enjoy food in exciting places and meet other dinners.
As you said – it’s good for our mental healthy – I really believe it. Doing every second day will make it very boring, but once there and when.

Yes, definitely!!! I agree with you, it is nice to order out every once in a while, but I actually can’t stand doing it all the time.

Do you know what … today I left for the supermarket with my trousers inside out again … the navy blue. Can’t believe – notice in the lift when I couldn’t put my keys in the pocket. – I think I need to eat out more .. *smile
