113 Days ’til 40: Discarded Junk or Abstract Art???

A picture is worth a thousand words. ~ Napoleon Bonaparte

A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament. ~ Oscar Wilde

I’m afraid that if you look at a think long enough, it loses all of its meaning. ~ Andy Warhol Read the rest of this entry »

114 Days ’til 40: Fruit of Your Labor

Okay, I admit, I came up with the title of this post due to the inspiration of painstakingly removing the seeds from a pomegranate.  If you have ever done this, you know that  it can be a long process and that your fingers often come out very red (or, at the best, they look a bit jaundiced afterwards).   Read the rest of this entry »

116 Days ’til 40: Little Known Artists

This past weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to meet one of my fourth cousins.  She lives about three hours north of us.  As my partner also has a cousin in the area, it was a perfect trip – we were able to see everyone.  I was very excited to find my cousin, as I have no other family members who live in this area of the world.  While we were visiting my cousin we walked around her community.  One home in the community was filled with gorgeous mosaic art (along with a garden outside the home).  Meir Davidson, the artist who filled this home from end to end with gorgeous mosaic art is no longer alive, but his children maintain the home and share their father’s art with those visitors who are lucky enough to be introduced to it. 117 Days ’til 40: Beautiful Nature

The weather is starting to change…. I LOVE it! I do not need great seasonal changes, but I LOVE the rain, so it is wonderful for me to see the rain start to fall in the autumn. Yesterday as the rain started to fall, my girls began to cheer. They know how much we need the rain, and they also love rainy days.

118 Days ’til 40: Self-Portraits

I took this photo at our school today. Our students created life-size self-portaits. What I LOVED about this project was the wonderful twists and self-reflection. First, the students were not linear in their thinking and rather than lie flat and trace their bodies, they chose action poses. Next, they drew pictures within their body outline of things that they connected with. Some drew soccer balls, others showed math problems. It was an AMAZING assignment.

Today, 118 days ’til 40, I took a moment to pause and appreciate the creativity of our students and teachers. What a gift!

119 Days ’til 40: Sensory Integration Issues

One of my sensory problems was hearing sensitivity, where certain loud noises, such as a school bell, hurt my ears.  It sounded like a dentist drill going through my ears. ~ Temple Grandin

All this sensory input, which begins in the brain, has its effect throughout the body. ~ Norman Cousins Read the rest of this entry »
