131 Days ’til 40: Playing With Your Food

13 Oct

Okay… Admit it.  You like to play with your food, don’t you??? If you claim you do not play with your food, you must have thought about it… right?  Did you play with your food as a child?

I did – I LOVED playing with my food (okay, true confession – sometimes I STILL like playing with my food!)

When I was younger I mortified my grandmother with my food etiquette   I once took an entire salad and proceeded to get every piece on my head somewhere – until I was the salad (it was fun!)

The photo above is the creation of my youngest daughter, who is very artistic.  She ordered a hamburger at a local restaurant and was thrilled that all the garnish (lettuce, onions, etc.)  was on the side – she took the opportunity to turn her hamburger into a piece of art before she ate it.  She claims it looks like her sister (which did not thrill her sister).

Today, 131 days ’til 40, I confess that I play with my food, and I like it.  Do you?

I think that’s part of the reason I like baking/cooking. It’s like playing with your food. 🙂

Yes, and you get to play with food in a socially appropriate/ acceptable way! 🙂

Funny story, and wow, 400, what a burger creation! I really don’t ‘play’ with food, I just ‘design’ it to look more enticing!

Now, I don’t play with my food but well, actually maybe I’ve, in the last few years made a smiley face with squirting ketchup on my plate. But as kids, hell yes, we played with out food. We had spaghetti in tomatoe sauce and each piece was a letter of the alphabet so we’d spell out words. And we’d get up to more food messing around too! I admit!

Hehehe – I have also made those ketchup smiley faces!!! 🙂 We do not buy alphabet soup, but I bet my girls would LOVE playing with it! (I never ate it growing up because my mom hated the flavor so she never bought it for us).

Fran and I were away in Durango for our annual anniversary get away so I’ve been “out of commission” for a few weeks. I’ve missed your posts and our “chats” but I’m back. Food? The one incident that comes to mind was years ago. I rented a train (you heard right) for Fran’s birthday. All the festivities took place in a few of the cars. After several hours, it was time for Fran to blow out the candles on her magnificently adorned chocolate cake. She did so and as the last candle was being extinguished, I thought the icing would look magnificent on one of our lady friends faces. It did!!! What proceeded, was a full-fledged all-out chocolate cake war. No one was immune. The interior of the train was transformed into a Willy Wonka tour gone horribly wrong. Everyone’s maturation was thrown to the wind. It was wonderful! So – how’s your day going? Hugs from here.

I hope you had a wonderful trip! I missed seeing your comments and chatting online with you! I must say, the chocolate food fight sounds amazing. I would love to do something like that. It would be a lot of fun!!! 🙂

Not often, except I like arranging fruit in the fruit bowls artistically – always at least two kinds of fruit in each bowl and trying for good colour and texture combinations. Also butter, when kept out of the fridge but not in very hot conditions, is brilliant for sculptures. What’s more, the sculpture changes each time you take some butter.

I also like to get a good color mix when creating a fruit bowl (or a vegetable platter!) I like the butter sculpture idea – yes, I bet it does change constantly!

I’ve always been the exact opposite, I guess, of a food play-with-er. I had to make sure that nothing on my plate touched anything else; not even the juice from the green beans (for example) was allowed to touch the mashed potatoes. Also, everything had to be eaten in a strict order: All the meat first, then all one veg, and finally all of the other one. Watching someone use bread or something to sop the plate with made me LOSE IT. Yeah, it was bad.

I finally got over it, like, a year or two ago.:-)

Wow, it is great you got over that – some people never do.

That’s a pretty burger! I sometimes play with my food…making faces out of them just like your daughter does. I wouldn’t play with my food in a fancy restaurant or say at an official function, but with my family and close friends, I feel that it’s perfectly fine to let that child in me out to make artsy stuff with my food…and why not? It makes me happy and isn’t dirtying anyone else’s fingers =D

Thank you! I think I may have to play with my food more!
