123 Days ’til 40: Favorite Colors

21 Oct

;

I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for. ~ Georgia O’Keeffe

I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it. ~ Alice Walker

What is your favorite color? What does it say about you?

My oldest daughter’s favorite color is red. It has been red for years. My youngest daughter’s favorite color is brown – it has been brown since she was about five years old, prior to that it was green. My favorite color is green – before that it was pink (for years) and in college it was purple.

While I am not totally sure why, I have noticed that there are people whose favorite color remains constant for years, or even a lifetime and there are others who shift favorite colors throughout their lives.

I am clearly a favorite color shifter. Yes, I do like change and experiencing new things. Perhaps my change in favorite colors is a commentary on my personality and the desire to experience new things. Perhaps the color choices are deeper rooted and somehow connected to the various cycles in my life.

My favorite color is not an intellectual exercise, but a personal feeling. There are times when I am drawn, on some sort of emotional level (okay, don’t worry, we are not talking super deep things here) to a specific color.

As aforementioned, at the moment that color is green. Perhaps I have come to love green because I live in a desert. I love the forest, but live in a hot climate where even the forests that do surround us are not as lush and green as the forests I love. Perhaps my love of green is partly connected to the fact that my hazel eyes seem to be getting greener as I grow older. when I wear green, my eyes look green. Perhaps I am drawn subconsciously to all the analogies that people draw between green and rebirth, new beginnings, new adventure. Or maybe I just like green….. because.

Today, 123 days ’til 40, I am so happy to be able to look on our colorful world and enjoy it. I love the fact that different people are drawn to different colors and that together we create rainbows of diversity.

What a great question. I think that I fall into that category of sticking with a favourite colour. I can totally understand why you opt for green, there are many wonderful shades. My personal favourite is blue. I don’t think I’ve come across a shade I don’t like. I just think it’s a wonderful colour. šŸ™‚

Color me purple first, then blue. Green represents someone who’s very being, exudes one central tenet – GO!!! I believe it fits quite nicely!

I love green too and especially in combination with yellow and white … but I hardly wear green – love red .. and hardly wear that neither, even if I feel so good when I do. Love my red 4 inc heels.
In the winter I prefer gray/grey – black make my face look even older .. all the wrinkles shows of so much more when I have black close to my face, and the skin goes grey. My kitchen is green and honeysuckle … my lounge is red and granite grey – my bedroom is taupe and rust. But red is my favorite color. *smile

I have always loved green … but it can drift into the blues (teal) or even the browns (olive) go cold (sage) or be bright (apple) … all shades of green is me

Ever since I visited India I can’t get enough of deep, intense turquoise. Before that it was a calm, peaceful celedon green that I loved. I went from one extreme to the other.

I used the same exact colors today to paint an “I love you ” sign for my daughter.
And I especially try not to piss God off, purple is my favorite color!!

I’ve loved purple all my life, but occasionaly other colors work their way in as accents. In elementary school it was orange, in college it was blue. Now it seems to be red.

When I was a kid I pretty just liked “blue” LOL I guess blue in it’s purest form… but now I see blue as a reflection of spirituality, so I associate light blue with blossoming spirituality and/or spirit and dark blue as being a more advanced spirituality…

    Great post.

My favourite colour used to be burgandy red. But now I like a kind of aqua-turquoise colour.

You really live in a dessert? How does it taste…? My favourite colour is also green and has been since I was a child although the obsession with it has long faded. I am still more at home in green fields than anywhere else in the world. Perhaps that is why I love Bangladesh so much?

okay, I went and changed it! THAT was embarrassing (but not my first, I am notorious because I am SO lazy about proofreading my blogs! Perhaps it is because I meticulously proofread things all day at work….

It happens to us all! I cringe when I look back at my older posts and realise there are some awful gaffs there! Normally I ignore other bloggers mistakes because I have so many of my own but here I couldn’t resist a gentle poke of fun with yours šŸ™‚

Interesting post! My favourite colour was green until I was about 8, then it shifted to purple.

I think green because it represents nature. Then when it changed to purple, I guess it was because I always saw it as a kind of ‘alternative’ colour and I’m drawn towards things that are a little bit different šŸ™‚

A rainbow does not ask for our choice of which color to favor; we simply must favor them all…don’t you think, 400?

My favorite color was green until I was in the army and after wearing green (in shades of olive) daily, I was done with that. Then it was pink for several years. For the past three years or so it has be aquamarine. I think my current choice has to do with the fact that I look great wearing the color and whenever I see the color I feel happier. It reminds me of the color of the ocean in Hawaii (and my eyes tend to reflect it when I wear it).

That made me laugh – I can see how the army would destroy a like of the color green! It is cool when your eyes change with your clothing! šŸ™‚

Pink makes me feel happy and at ease!
If black becomes my favourite color it’s usually a sign that depression is heading my way! “weird I know”..*smiling*
