116 Days ’til 40: Little Known Artists

28 Oct

This past weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to meet one of my fourth cousins.  She lives about three hours north of us.  As my partner also has a cousin in the area, it was a perfect trip – we were able to see everyone.  I was very excited to find my cousin, as I have no other family members who live in this area of the world.  While we were visiting my cousin we walked around her community.  One home in the community was filled with gorgeous mosaic art (along with a garden outside the home).  Meir Davidson, the artist who filled this home from end to end with gorgeous mosaic art is no longer alive, but his children maintain the home and share their father’s art with those visitors who are lucky enough to be introduced to it.

I love the piece that is pictured above, as it reminds me of my daughter :).  As my readers may never stumble upon this gorgeous community and the work of this wonderful artist, I will share a few more photos below – have a happy Sunday!

Today, 116 days ’til 40, I pause and am thankful for all the art that enters our lives – and I am reminded that often the greatest of artists are unknown, and in our own backyard.

Yes, me too! The artist is no longer alive and the entire collection is in his home, now a small museum…..

As a mosaicist I love these. I would love to know how the artist created the frame for the mosaics if you know.

LOVE these mosaics! I’ve been a mosaic artist for a long time, and I’ve never heard of Meir Davidson. I’m so thankful for the introduction!

You are welcome! His work is a hidden treasure and most have never heard of him….. which is really quite sad because he was very talented.

They look like art from a long time ago, especially the second picture. I want to eventually buy some large clay pots and “mosaic them” for our front porch. Thanks for sharing this.

I know the artist is no longer alive, but I am not sure how long ago he created these wonderful pieces.

Wow!! It is stunning and unique!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us, as you are right, most of us may never get to see it otherwise.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend! 😀

Not my taste … and all the figures in the garden … will scare the life out of my friends – still I admire the job that has gone into those pieces.

I love that about art – that what one person loves another person may hate….. it makes us all so unique! 🙂

    Very unique and genuinely interesting.
Thanks so much for sharing, it is highly unlikely I’ll find my way to this place anytime soon unless chance favours it for me 🙂
    Cheers.

I am guessing most people will not find there way here soon – that is why I love it… one of those beautiful hidden treasures in life that only a few people find!

It’s both sad that more won’t share it and at the same time better that it stays low key. Catch-22-ish situation.

Thank you for sharing these lovely mosaic pieces. The second one reminds me of Australian aboriginal art, very nice!
