81 Days ’til 40: It’s a SMALL World

Yes, I know it is pathetically cliché, but it really is a small world, particularly with the internet bringing us closer together.  WordPress has a very cool feature, which all of my fellow bloggers are aware of, that records where blog visitors live.  I get a list of all of the hits my blog receives daily and the countries they come from.

Being that my blog is an English language blog, it is no surprise that the most hits come from countries such as the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand.  Yet, I find it so fascinating to know that there are also hits from places such as Albania, Japan, Ghana, Belgium and Honduras.  Overall, I have had visits from 122 countries in the past ten months!  What an honor!  It is so fun to see where all of my readers live.  They are LITERALLY all over the world!

What an amazing journey it would be if I could visit my readers in their home countries… can you imagine?  For now, it will remain a fantasy, but I do hope to one day visit more of the countries my readers come from.  I also wonder if a few more countries may make it on the list before I have completed my 400 day journey.

Today, 81 days ’til 40, I thank YOU, all of my readers from all over the world – you make writing so much fun for me!

I agree with you. I look at the map on a daily basis and can’t believe it. I al also amazed at how many people in other parts of the workd speak English, in addition to their native language. Yet in the province of Quebec (where I am originally from) theyvhave been battling over language since the 70’s. Shame on us!

While you’re dreaming of all the countries your “followers” come from, remember – the four of us have a creekside dinner date in AZ. Oh – may I ask you to re-subscribe to my blogs on http://www.thewalkbook.com? I’m shutting down the blogsite I’ve been using the past 18 months, in about 4 weeks (it’s now incorporated on my book’s website) and I don’t want to lose you! You’re a special friend!

It truly is fantastic, 400! I now have friends in many faraway places…and they’ve become very GOOD friends, in that we also occasionally e-mail each other in addition to trading comments (as you and I do!). Though I’m not a ‘shut-in’, I really don’t travel very far here in Chicago, nor have I gotten out to anywhere in 7+ years…and I LOVE to travel! With my blog, I’ve seen some of the most interesting places…and all my fellow bloggers would agree that WordPress is GREAT!!!

Well hon, don’t be so surprised, after all the beauty of the internet with all its complications is connection. We all get to connect with people we otherwise never would be able to, and by writing or just posting pics, we get to show a part of us which is truer than what we show the surrounding world. I was surprised as well to see that my pics have been seen in places where it’s illegal to be gay or be caught watching male erotica pics, yet people do. So I’m glad to bring to these daily visitor my dose of just that :). Keep being yourself, love reading what you have to say. 🙂

Yes, very true – wow, it must be very interesting to see what countries view your blog!!! I always wonder when I get views from those countries if it is locals or expatriates living there who are reading…

We’re lucky, of course, that English is the language most understood over the world, so not a few Romanians or Chinese will be able to read it. I notice on my non-poetry blog sudden surges of hits from particular countries (Lithuania, Israel, the UAE, Brazil) and wonder what causes them.

Very true! Yes, I think the same when I see the many countries – it is such a cool feature WordPress added!
