53 Days ’til 40: What is His Story?

IMG_5651

I have not worked as a counselor in an official capacity for almost four years (yes, it is true that my current job in educational leadership does lend itself to many counseling moments).  That said, I no longer consider myself a counseling professional, I now consider myself a broader “educational professional”.  Yet, I have these moments when I find myself slipping back into that counseling role.  The interesting thing is that I slip into the counseling role in the strangest of places (can you relate?)  It does not necessarily happen at staff or parents meetings exclusively.  Sometimes, I find myself in counselor mode on the weekends or while on vacation – far away from my professional realities.  Yesterday was one of those days. 55 Days ’til 40: Resolutions

IMG_5640

It is that time of year.  Many people will pause during the next few days and come up with a list of resolutions for the coming year.  Some people have genuine goals they want to see fulfilled in the coming year.  Some individuals use this as a bargaining time with God or their higher power…….. ‘I will be “good” this year, if you only give me my health (or wealth, or a new job, or a significant other).  Read the rest of this entry »

76 Days ’til 40: Rejection Sucks

IMG_5131

Over the past few months I have been debating the possibility of expanding my professional repertoire and challenging myself with additional opportunities.  Simple, huh?  It is NOT at all simple.  In my particular case, I needed to work out an agreement with someone willing to expose me to new circumstances and opportunities.  I had to find a perfect learning partner combination. 86 Days ’til 40: Hug Therapy

A hug is like a boomerang – you get it back right away.  ~ Bil Keane

That’s what people do who love you. They put their arms around you and love you when you’re not so lovable. ~ Deb Caletti

If you’re angry at a loved one, hug that person. And mean it. You may not want to hug – which is all the more reason to do so. It’s hard to stay angry when someone shows they love you, and that’s precisely what happens when we hug each other. ~ Walter Anderson Read the rest of this entry »
