A few days ago my number of views was 69,999….. it made me think, what is in a number?I have to admit it, I really do enjoy it when I see that people are reading my blog. Is this some sort of exercise in admitting that I have an ego that I really like to see stroked? I would like to believe that this is more about my feeling good that I can write blog entries that touch people, that they relate to.
I love connecting with people and I love it when they connect with me. It is a wonderful thing when we can connect and relate to one another.
Today, 139 days ’til 40, I am so thankful to my readers – thank you for your continual visits, you are my writing inspiration!

I agree that there is a great connection factor in blogging. I know that we all have friends and family in our “real world”, but it’s so much fun finding an online community who has the same passions. My virtual friends are just as important as my work friends, and actually fit me to a T since I chose them. Kind of like online dating, but it’s online friending.

What a pleasant coincidence-today I also expressed my gratefulness for my fellow bloggers and readers! Numbers in this case, show that people have taken an interest in what you have to say and when people do that, it’s my belief, it means that they relate to your story and that your writing is worthy of their attention! We are all in this together and when we find someone who’s writing “speaks” to us, we keep returning for more.
At least, that’s how I feel about coming here and reading your posts! 😉

Oh the numbers are definitely an ego-stroking thing for me, although my views are poking along at much lower numbers so I should remind my ego to chill out. Funny – I just took a similar shot of my screen, when it indicated 6,666 views. ‘Yikes’ was my thought at the time.

Yes, when we write something – on the internet or otherwise – or paint a painting or spray-paint graffiti – we like to know people are looking at it.
It thought this might be about the huge significance we give to certain landmark numbers – when we reach 30, 40, 50, 60; a marriage reaching similar totals; making a million; in high-scoring games like cricket, the significance given to scoring 100 (“a century”) to the extent that batsmen/women on 90+ often become nervous even though they’ve already got a big score. I suppose this reflects the way the human mind works: we compartmentalise things and a person of 39 or a score of 99 go into different boxes to a person of 40 or a score of 100.

Great points you make – in fact, recently I had to take the GRE standardized test for graduate study – I HATED it… I know I am smart and can learn, but I do not remember the mathematical specifics that they want me to know…..
